Administration

John Greene, Station Manager
John Greene grew up in the Western PA town of New Castle. He began his broadcast career as a volunteer with KRCL radio in S.L.C. in 1980. John has a B.S. degree in Political Science from the University of Maryland and an MSW from the University of Utah. John served in the US Army to include a tour of duty in Asmara, Eritrea once part of Ethiopia. In addition to KRCL John managed NPR affiliate KUNR in Reno, Nevada, has served on the board of National Public Radio, and numerous other non-profit organizations in Salt Lake City.

News

Doug Fabrizio, RadioWest Producer and Host Awards
Doug Fabrizio has been reporting for KUER since 1987, and became News Director in 1993. In 2001, he became host and executive producer of RadioWest, a one hour conversation/call-in show. He is also the host of the weekly television broadcast Utah Now on KUED Channel 7, and has served as a guest host of the NPR’s, “Talk of the Nation.” He has won numerous awards for his reporting as well as for RadioWest from such organizations as the Society of Professional Journalists, the Utah Broadcasters Association and the Public Radio News Directors Association. Doug obtained his Broadcast Journalism degree from the University of Utah, with Minors in Theater and Spanish.

Dan Bammes, Morning Edition Host and Producer Awards
Dan Bammes grew up in Utah County and has worked in radio since 1974. He has a degree in broadcasting from BYU and extensive experience as a reporter, newscaster, news director and wire service bureau chief. Dan is also a cancer survivor who spends much of his free time connecting with and supporting other patients with multiple myeloma.

Tasha Cook , All Things Considered Host and Reporter Awards
Tasha comes to KUER from the NPR affiliate in Cleveland, where she reported on health care, immigration and politics. Before public radio, Tasha worked as a television reporter and spent several years toiling in the book and magazine publishing industries in New York City. She was born in Hong Kong, raised in eastern Canada and educated in the United States at Vassar College and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Tasha lives with her husband and daughter in Salt Lake City.

Jenny Brundin, Senior reporter Awards
Jenny Brundin has covered Utah politics, culture and science for KUER for 13 years, six of them as a News Director. Jenny grew up in western Canada, taught in adult education, and has backpacked the globe. She received a BA in political science at McGill in Montreal and a Masters in Journalism at UC Berkeley. Jenny has reported for the Los Angeles Times, Toronto Star, and now freelances for NPR National, the CBC and BBC. Jenny has received national Clarion and PRNDI awards for her work, as well as a regional Edward R. Murrow award.

Elaine Clark, Senior Producer, RadioWest Awards 
Elaine Clark left her home state after finishing a BA in Folklore and Germanic Studies at Indiana University. She earned an MA in Middle East Studies from the University of Utah, which included a year of academic research and work for an education NGO in the West Bank. Before joining KUER, she was Director of Public Relations and Marketing for Repertory Dance Theatre. In her free time, Elaine plays full-back for the Salt City SLUGS Women’s Rugby team, and reads and travels at every opportunity.

Michael Havey, Operations Manager 
Michael Tadashi Havey is a Utah native who grew up in Salt Lake City (listening to KUER, of course). He’s also half Japanese and won his first radio journalism award for a piece he produced about the internment camp where his mother, uncle and grandparents were sent during World War II. Michael has traveled to Japan, China, Europe, Canada and Mexico and been a part of KUER since 1990. He loves sushi, photography and good novels. He earned his Bachelors of Fine Art from the University of Utah and has one daughter.

Web Site

Chad Johnson, Web Site Producer 
Chad is just visiting this planet. During his stay he has married his wonderful wife, Dolly. Together, they have a daughter/dancer. They share a home with two cats who, in turn, share their furs and purrs. Chad studied Sculpture and Photography in school and has worked as an Artist or Art Director in various industries. His current role as Web Site Producer is another challenging adventure on planet Earth.

Jazz

Steve "Daddy-O" Williams, Jazz Director / Host
Born in Manhattan at the end of WWII to a big band Dad and a dancer Mom, Steve was pretty much sentenced to a life of music. His father's woodwinds were all around, and Steve picked up the clarinet and saxophone. He studied music at the University of Utah, and loves playing with small groups. He got his start in radio in 1979, here at KUER, and became Jazz Director in 1984. He loves the opportunities he has to meet the people and artists in jazz. To relax, he likes to travel, taking in jazz festivals and conferences around the country and motoring around Utah and beyond in his beloved Volkswagen Westfalia.

Chuck Waagen, Weekend Jazz Host
Chuck Waagen is a native Salt Laker whose chief interests include film, literature, and the arts. Employed at KUER since 1985, he admits to being dragged kicking and screaming into radio while pursuing a telecommunications degree from the University of Utah. "I never dreamed I'd be in radio," he reflects. "But now that I'm here, I love it. And as Miles Davis has been heard to say, 'There are no accidents.'"
Chuck loves all types of music, and is especially happy about the expanding jazz scene in Utah, which, he says, "is growing even as I speak."

Development

Susan Kropf , Director of Development and Marketing 
As a southern girl from a long line of southern gardeners, Susan was lured away from a 17 year career at her beloved Red Butte Garden only by an opportunity to work for her ‘other’ love….KUER and public radio. Her gypsy life started in Tallahassee at Florida State University and ended at Oregon State University in Corvallis with a Bachelor of Science in Management and Economics and an MBA. In 1988, she moved to Utah with her husband Darryl Kropf, professor of Biology at the University of Utah, and together they have enjoyed exploring the wonders of the west. Spare time is devoted to travel, fly fishing, sleeping in the dirt, and two adorable grandkids.

Tristin Tabish, Marketing Coordinator
A Utah native, Tristin has worked in public broadcasting since 1991, starting at KRCL 90.9 and now in KUER’s development department. Tristin received her master’s degree in communication at the University of Utah with a focus in children’s literature. In her spare time, she teaches humanities at Salt Lake Community College and Public Relations at the University of Utah. According to Tristin, the best things in life are (in no particular order): coffee, laughter, friends and family, artistic expression, the Southern Utah desert, Red Iguana’s mole, the ocean, love and public radio.

Ja'Naye Payne, Manager of Underwriting and Corporate Relations
Ja’Naye received her BS in Communications from the University of Utah. Mostly known for her work in the land of coffee as manager of The Salt Lake Roasting Co., you can bet she knows how to make an incredible latte. In her spare time from the Roasting Co. she cut her teeth in public radio as a Production Assistant with KCPW. Now she’s looking forward to expanding her knowledge of public radio within the illustrious halls of KUER. Her passions include cooking, traveling with her boyfriend whenever possible, learning how to knit, great coffee, and her little dog Tucker.

Emily Galbreath, Manager of Individual and Major Giving
Emily moved to Utah from Kansas in 2008 with her husband and young daughter. She received her B.S. in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Kansas and spent most of her time after college employed at the Kansas University Endowment Association in various fundraising roles, the most recent being the Assistant Director of Annual Giving. As a self-proclaimed news geek, Emily is excited to combine her fundraising skills with her passion for news and public radio at KUER. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, hiking, skiing- on the water and the snow, eating and cooking good food, and occasionally imbibing in mindless television, really strong coffee and some good red wine.

Gina Lee, Development Department
Gina earned her Communication degree from the University of Utah with minors in Spanish and Peace & Conflict Studies. She came to KUER after raising a record amount of money as a student working for the University’s Annual Fund. Her passion for education and the University led her to KUER, where she is making the most of her fundraising talents while expanding her mind with the wonders of public radio. Gina loves to travel anywhere she can learn about other cultures and everywhere she can practice her Spanish. She also loves learning to play the piano, reading, making crafts, competitive sports, good food (and learning to make that good food), art museums, her puppy (temporarily housed elsewhere but truly hers), and most importantly enjoying many laughs with her family and friends.

Engineering

Lewis Downey, Engineer
An itinerant son of the western soil, Lewis earned two degrees in geology, then fell into broadcast engineering in the 1980's by doing a radio show featuring music from the cutting edge of many a bygone era on a community station. Some experience as an amateur radio operator and running a phone patch station from Viet Nam in the 1970's didn't hurt. The rest is just history. Despite repeated warnings, he still insists on playing the harmonica...

Accounting

Amy Fowler, Accountant
Amy joins us after several years of film production accounting. A longtime fan of public radio, she’s glad to be contributing her skills to KUER! A western transplant, she grew up in the Midwest and graduated with a BA from the University of Iowa. When not crunching numbers, she’s finding fun in the mountains, which is the main reason she lives here.
