Senator Susan Collins (R-ME), is speaking on the floor of the US Senate today (approximately 1:00 PM Mountain Time). She's talking about her position on the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. Collins is one of the small group of Senators who could swing the confirmation vote either way.

Federal prosecutors filed felony charges today against a Logan man who the FBI said has confessed to mailing ricin-laced letters to President Donald Trump and other high-ranking officials last month.

The U.S. Senate is holding a cloture vote, Friday, October 5th, to close debate on the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the US Supreme Court. This is not the confirmation vote itself, but it is a key indicator of whether Republicans have the necessary votes to approve Kavanaugh as the replacement for retired Justice Anthony Kennedy.

A Utah man who has confessed to mailing four ricin-laced letters to top government officials around Washington, including the White House, will face federal criminal charges expected to be filed Friday, according to court records and the U.S. Attorney's Office in Salt Lake City.

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is set to face a second round of questions from the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday. He's expected to be questioned about his views on previous Supreme Court cases, as well as a range of policy issues. Kavanaugh is also likely to be questioned about his work on Ken Starr's independent counsel investigation of former President Bill Clinton, and his time working in the White House under former President George W. Bush.

After a sometimes raucous day of opening statements on Tuesday, Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh faces his first round of questioning from Senators on Wednesday. Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee want to know about Kavanaugh's position on a range of issues including abortion, health care and presidential power. The nominee also faces questions about his time working in the Bush administration and his time working under independent counsel Ken Starr.

The late Sen. John McCain will be honored at an expansive ceremony at Washington's National Cathedral on Saturday. Former President Barack Obama and former President George W. Bush will give remarks, along with McCain's longtime friend Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and several others. U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch was among the Utah leaders joining a chorus of condolences and remembrances from around the nation for U.S. Sen. John McCain, the Arizona Republican and two-time presidential candidate who died Saturday. McCain, who had been fighting brain cancer but whose family announced the day before his death he was stopping medical treatment, was 81.
