Marriage and family therapist Dr. Jonathan Swinton announced his run for the U.S. Senate in 2016. He filed with the Federal Elections Commission Monday as a Democrat. Swinton says he works everyday with people who don’t know how to get along and he helps them figure out how to be cooperative, to listen, and be supportive of one another when they don’t get along.

“…all skills that people in Washington don’t have and Mike Lee has shown he can be quite divisive and hold very hard lines on issues, says Swinton. “And I think the people of Utah really want somebody who’s willing to be cooperative and be willing to work with people.”

Swinton says he’s a native Utahn who believes in Democratic ideals because he’s interested in people. He says that makes him a Washington outsider with the skills to be successful in Congress.

“I think as a Democrat I have an appreciation for the struggles that real people have in our state, says Swinton”

He is the first Democrat to declare for the Senate race and the first candidate to oppose Republican incumbent Mike Lee for the position of the state’s junior senator.  Both Democrats and Republicans will hold their nominating conventions next Spring.
