ATK Develops New Space Launch System
By Dan Bammes
Salt Lake City, UT – The end of the space shuttle program has left a lot of Americans wondering what's next for the United States in space exploration. We've heard a lot this week about Space-X, one of the private efforts to continue along the path pioneered by NASA over the past fifty years. ATK, the company that built the solid rocket boosters for the space shuttle, is also in that market. They're proposing a system called Liberty to NASA that they hope will become the way astronauts get into space in just a few years. Joe Oliva is the director of business development for ATK, which has employed thousands of people in Utah over the years. He spoke with KUER's Dan Bammes.
