"Holly on the Hill" Richardson Opens Bid for State Senate Seat

State Senate District 14 candidate Holly Richardson

Political blogger and former Utah House member Holly Richardson announced Tuesday she is looking to fill the District 14 seat in the State Senate.Richardson says she’s been an active conservative for 15 years in Utah.

“Because I really love it. I love the public policy and I do write a political blog but I really just care passionately about helping to make the process accessible to more people," says Richardson, "but also to see that we get some common-sense laws in place.”

Current Republican Senator Al Jackson is not seeking re-election.  District 14 encompasses parts of American Fork and northeast Utah County. Richardson says the district has been well-represented by Jackson and before that by John Valentine, the current head of the State Tax Commission.

“As somebody who has lived in this area, right in the heart of the district for a number of years; I’ve lived in my current home for 12 and in Alpine," Richardson says, "which is also in the district for an additional 4 1/2, I have a real sense for what’s going on in this district.”

Richardson says she wants to get an early start on her campaign because of the state Republican Party’s internal conflicts over SB 54, the state’s new election law. She says she expects to collect signatures and go through the caucus and convention process.
