Ogden Officer Laid to Rest
By Dan Bammes
Ogden, UT – It took a basketball arena at Weber State University to accomodate the thousands of people who came to pay their respects to a fallen police officer in Ogden.
Dozens of police motorcycles stood ready after the funeral service to lead the procession to the Ogden City Cemetery. Agent Jared Francom's body was carried to the cemetery on the back of a fire truck. Thousands of uniformed officers from agencies all over the West attended the service in the Dee Events Center, along with many from the community. Robin Ely, who came from Layton for the service, said, "He served his community and we need to show support for what he did and gave his life for."
During the service, Francom's brothers and fellow officers described him as a fun-loving guy who was also devoted to his family, a hard-working officer who still took time to call his wife and talk to his two young daughters during every shift. Francom died last week in a shootout that also left five officers wounded. One of them, Shawn Grogan, left the hospital in an ambulance to attend today's funeral.
