Salt Lake County wants the public’s help deciding where to build new dog parks. They’re hosting open houses beginning Tuesday.
The Parks and Recreation Division finished a dog park master plan back in 2008. It says the county needs two to three dog parks in the south and west side of the valley. And not just small neighborhood parks. They need to be five to 10 acres.
Clayton Scrivner is a spokesman for Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation.
“People are passionate about their dogs, people love their dogs, they are members of family, we totally appreciate that and we encourage people to show up and say how we can improve their quality of life,” Scrivner says.
But Scrivner says there are a lot of things to consider.
“There’s environmental concerns, water use concerns, adjacent land use concerns,” he says. “So it’s not something where you can just plop a regional dog park down anywhere.”
