The U.S. Women’s Ski Jumping team announced the three nominees that will participate at this year’s Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Officials made the announcement at the team’s training facility in Park City.
Sarah Hendrickson, Jessica Jerome, and Lindsey Van will represent the United States in the first ever women’s ski jumping competition to take place at the Olympics. Jerome was the first person to secure a spot on the team by winning the U.S Olympic team trials on December 29. She’s also a 10-time National Champion. She says finally having the opportunity to compete at the Olympics is extremely rewarding.
“I think that all of the girls who will be representing women’s ski jumping have deserved it 100 percent," she says. "They’ve trained hard, they’ve fought and worked and I’m just really excited to just be able to show the world what we can do.”
Lindsey Van was the first ever women’s world champion in ski jumping and Sarah Hendrickson is the reigning world champion. They were selected based on their performance in the World Cup, Olympic Trials, and coach’s input. The formal naming of the U.S. Olympic team will take place on January 27.
