Utah Named #1 Go To Destination For 2016

Fodor’s Travel has named Utah their number one go to destination for 2016

“Why add Utah to your bucket list? The state defies expectations.”

That’s how Fodor’s begins to describe why they picked Utah as their number one go to destination for 2016. Editors for the highly regarded travel guide publisher continue saying that the Beehive State is a top destination because it offers so many different outdoor experiences for both well-heeled travelers and families on a budget.

“Fodor’s is like the bible for traveler’s. It’s such a prestigious well-written guidebook.”

That’s Vicki Varela. She’s the director of tourism for the state of Utah. She says the listing is an affirmation of all the hard work her office has put into promoting the state, and that it will likely lead to even more revenue for local and state economies.

“Tourists put $1.07 billion in Utah cash registers in the form of tax revenues," she says. "That’s state and local tax revenues that go to our schools, our roads, and so forth. This portends really well for us.”

Fodor’s editors say they spent weeks debating dozens of locations before narrowing it to 25. Other destinations on the list include Cuba, Sicily, and Nepal.
