Utah-born rodeo legend Lewis Feild died this week of pancreatic cancer. He was a 5-time World All-Around Champion with three straight world titles from 1985 to ’87. Steven Money is the rodeo director for Spanish Fork City and has run the rodeo there for 33 years. He says Feild was a cowboy’s cowboy.

“He was a fierce competitor, he really was. Yet he was a humble man after the ride.”

Money says it was rare to see Feild hit the ground.

“He was always like, seemed like he was ahead of the horse. That’s the way his son is;” says Money his son that’s won four world champions is the same thing as Lewie.”

Money says it helps to see Feild’s legacy carried on. Kaycee, the younger of two Feild sons, most recently won the 2014 world bareback championship. After retiring from the pro rodeo circuit, the elder Feild became what is called a pick-up man, helping riders off the ground after their ride. He was also the head of rodeo instruction at his alma mater, what is now Utah Valley University. Feild was inducted into Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association Hall of Fame in 1992. The funeral for Feild is set for Saturday at the LDS Stake Center in Elk Ridge with the viewing on Friday from 4 to 8 pm.  Lewis Feild was 59.
