Officials at a county jail in Utah have said they won’t disclose records to the public, in part because the information is stored on a remote server linked to the internet that only certain employees can access. But in a recently filed lawsuit, the ACLU of Utah and the Disability Law Center claim the government can’t hide behind technology, not even the "cloud."

The ACLU of Utah and Disability Law Center have announced a lawsuit against Davis County to release its standards for operating local jails following a rash of inmate deaths. 

Several Davis County Republicans are trying to oust their local party chair because he wasn’t registered with the party when was elected. 

Davis County GOP Chair Phill Wright believes the whole thing is a big mistake. He says he inadvertently failed to check a box declaring himself a Republican on a provisional ballot in 2012 and never knew that it caused his status to change.

Davis County Will Vote by Mail

  Davis County is trying a vote-by-mail system for the primary election this spring and the general election in the fall.

Voters in Davis County received letters last week telling them about the changes.  Election Manager Brian McKenzie says ballot packets will be mailed out 28 days before each election.  When they come back, they’ll be verified using a bar code and by comparing the voter’s signature to their registration forms.

UDOT Considers Comments on West Davis Freeway

  The public comment deadline has passed on Utah Department of Transportation’s proposal to build a freeway from Farmington to Hooper.  Critics of the West Davis Corridor say UDOT needs to back up and take another look.

Steve Erickson is with a group promoting another alternative, the so-called “Shared Solution.”  It would scrap the freeway and instead improve east-west routes across the county leading to FrontRunner and I-15.
