10/2/09: Shouting Fire
By Doug Fabrizio
Salt Lake City, Utah – Friday, we're talking about the film "Shouting Fire" from director Liz Garbus. The documentary explores the state of free speech in this country. Among the stories in her film is the case of Ward Churchill, who was fired as a tenured professor at the University of Colorado after he made provocative comments about the attacks on 9/11. Garbus asks questions about the limits of free speech in free society, but she also gets at the nature of fear. (Rebroadcast)
This Monday, October 5 at 7:00 p.m., the ACLU of Utah and the Salt Lake City Film Center will host a free screening of "Shouting Fire" followed by a panel discussion. It will be held at the downtown Salt Lake City Public Library. For more information, call 801-521-9862 x100 or click here
