KUER brought home three first place, three second place and one third place win in the the Colorado Pro Chapter — Society of Professional Journalists Competition. The region includes journalists from Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.
State Street received a first place award for podcasts, and Lexi Peery secured a first place award for her work on the story about the Manti Temple Renovation. Sent Away also received a first place award for its investigative podcast on the troubled teen industry in Utah.
Second place wins include Sonja Hutson’s story about Utah’s tech industry, Jon Reed’s piece about the Webb Telescope and Lexi Peery, Tim Slover, Renee Bright and Elaine Clark for their work on how target shooting causes wildfires.
KUER also took home two third place wins: one in the illustration category for Renee Bright’s work on climate reporting and one for the KUER newsroom’s work on the Utah climate crisis.
