The title story from The Tsar of Love and Techno (Hogarth) by Anthony Marra doesn’t appear until mid-way through this book of stories.  But Betsy Burton says that, when you get to it, “you realize what you’re reading is more novel than collection, a sweeping tale of Russian history’s cruel ironies and the incandescence of memory.”

Former Phish vocalist Trey Anastasio continues to have a very successful solo career.  He and his band will perform at The Depot on Thursday, November 12th.

Portland-based indie band Wild Ones are opening for Pure Bathing Culture at Kilby Court on Thursday, November 12th.

And Lucero will play two nights at The State Room—Saturday, November 14th, and Sunday, November 15th.

Music heard on this Books & Beats:

Intro: “The Gulag Orkestar” by Beirut

1: “The Song” by Trey Anastasio

2: “Dim the Lights” by Wild Ones

3: “Went Looking for Warren Zevon’s Los Angeles” by Lucero
