Beyond King: Complicating Black Leadership Presented by Dr. Francoise N. Hamlin, an Associate Professor, Brown University. Dr. Hamlin is an associate professor of history and Africana studies at Brown University. She is a US historian specializing in the diverse array of African American experiences and epistemologies, particularly during struggles for freedom and equality. Moving beyond the efforts of Martin Luther King, Jr., Hamlin complicates leadership during the civil rights movement by juxtaposing Aaron Henry with Vera Pigee. Hamlin exposes the many methods of achieving freedom and justice following World War II by detailing the styles of these two leading voices from Clarksdale, Mississippi.
