House Special Investigative Committee Dives Into Investigation of Utah AG John Swallow

A week before their second meeting, the House Special Investigative Committee is already collecting documents and creating a list of potential witnesses as it looks into allegations against Utah Attorney General John Swallow.

The special investigative committee has only officially met one time since its creation in July, but that hasn’t stopped them from diving right in to their work. Since their first meeting in August, they’ve hired special counsel and special investigators that have already begun gathering information and documents. Committee Chairman Jim Dunnigan says they’ve also started to look at potential witnesses.

“We have worked on that witness list and are continue to work on that," he says. "We are still gathering information. I expect that that will be an ongoing process. At this time I don’t have a time frame for when we’ll be bringing witnesses before the committee. It’s probably still, well, it is still down the road.”

While the House Investigative Committee is at the beginning of their investigation, the Salt Lake Tribune reports that Attorney General John Swallow’s attorney believes the Federal investigation could be ending in the next few weeks. If that happens, Representative Dunnigan says he expects the House committee will continue to investigate anyway, regardless of the results.

“Our responsibility is to gather the facts and we’ll present them to the house and also to the public and then people will decide what those facts mean," he says. "So, I expect that we’ll continue to gather facts. That’s our charge.”

The committee will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, September 11.
