March 16 — Hinckley Institute Pizza & Politics Moderated by Lee Hale

Invitation
Hinckley Institute for Politics

On Monday, March 16 from noon - 1 p.m. KUER resport and Preach podcast host Lee Hale will moderate a roundtable discussion of the changing nature of Christianity as a part of the Hinckley Institute's "Pizza and Poltiics" series at the University of Utah. This event is free and open to the public.

An increasing number of Americans identify as spiritual, but not religious. Indeed, while 89% of Americans believe in God, Christian churches are losing members nationwide. Even in Utah, home of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, recent reporting shows that Salt Lake County’s population is less than 50% LDS— the lowest it has been in nearly 100 years. American religious behavior ripples beyond houses of worship, impacting communities, politics, and more. The panel will explore the causes and nuances of our shifting religious landscape and what its impact it may have in the future.

Guests:

  • Amos Guiora, Professor, SJ Quinney College of Law

  • Matt Canham, Senior Managing Editor, The Salt Lake Tribune

  • Paul Reeve, Professor of Mormon Studies, University of Utah History Department

  • Lee Hale, Host, Preach Podcast (moderator)
