Worker Deaths Increase In 2018

The number of Utah workers who died on the job climbed last year with 49 recorded workplace deaths, according to the Utah Labor Commission. That’s up from 43 deaths in 2017, but the state’s fatal injury rate is below the national level. Nearly half of those deaths were transportation-related, and most came from mining and manufacturing jobs. The number of workplace deaths in Utah has fallen in recent years, as 2007 saw the most deaths in recent history with 78. — Jon Reed
