'Person Of Interest' Sought By Salt Lake Police In Connection To Fatal Stabbing

Nov 14, 2018

A man who Salt Lake City police say is a person of interest in a Nov. 8 fatal stabbing was seen on the University of Utah campus Wednesday morning.

Kidus Chane Yohannes, 31, was seen around 11 a.m. at the Marriott Library. Police say he is considered armed and dangerous.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we are alerting campus and asking anyone with information to immediately call University Police Department Dispatch,” police said in a campus alert posted on a university website at 9:57 p.m. Wednesday.

The University of Utah police, which called Yohannes a “suspect” in its alert, are assisting Salt Lake City police, who earlier Wednesday issued a release saying the department had identified Yohannes as a "person of interest" whom detectives wanted to talk about a killing that occur a week ago.

Salt Lake City police were called to a stabbing in the area of 477 North 300 West on Nov. 8 just before 9:30 p.m.

Police say Yohannes is known to spend time around the Marmalade Library at 280 West 500 North in Salt Lake City. Police ask if he is seen to call 801-799-3000 or 911 and refer to case number 18-205103.
