Salt Lake Airport Redevolpment Project Adds Second Concourse

Salt Lake City Department of Airports

The new Salt Lake City International Airport will be adding a second concourse to the one already planned.

The additional concourse attaches $740 million dollars to the construction price tag already estimated to cost $1.8 billion dollars. Salt Lake City Department of Airport spokesperson Nancy Volmer says the master plan originally included a second concourse and that building it now, instead of later, will help them avoid costs associated with remodeling several of the existing gate areas.

“Now what we can do is those will be demolished and we will be using the North Concourse to service aircraft,” she says.

Volmer says the new plan will be also good for passengers.

“The passengers were going to be somewhat impacted when we had to do the renovations on B, C, and D," she says. "This way, since we’re not doing those renovations the impact to passengers will be minimal.”

The new Terminal and portions of the South and North Concourses are scheduled to be complete by 2020. The Salt Lake City Department of Airports isn’t using any taxpayer dollars to fund the construction.
