Salt Lake County Launches Millcreek Incorporation Website

Salt Lake County has launched a new website to help Millcreek residents better understand the pros and cons of incorporation. Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon announced the new educational efforts this morning.

Millcreek voters will decide this November whether or not they want to become the county’s 17th city. But first, Mayor Corroon says residents must be well informed about the issue.

“We’re trying to engage residents as neutral brokers, to give them the facts and then give them the pros and cons as enunciated by the people on both sides of the equation,” Corroon said.

The website was created by Salt Lake County with input from those who are for and against incorporation. It includes what the ballot language will look like, definitions on the issues residents will be voting on, information on a feasibility study that was conducted and a frequently asked questions page.

Resident Jeff Silvestrini is pro-incorporation.  He provided input for the new site.

“Basically the ground rules were, we each drafted our own response to the county’s response and all three of those are there where they are deemed appropriate,” Silvestrini said. “We also participated in a little editing of each other’s work, just to make it as clear as we possibly could.”

The new website is www.millcreekballot.com

A public meeting about the issue is scheduled tonight at Canyon Rim Academy from 7-9 pm. It’s sponsored by a group affiliated with the community councils in Millcreek Township.
