Richar Van Wagoner, Mark Shurtleff's attorney, and Mark Shurtleff enter a not guilty plea

Mark Shurtleff’s appearance in third district court on Monday was brief, as he pleaded not guilty to all seven charges brought against him. Shurtleff is accused of accepting prohibited gifts, bribery, and obstructing justice during his time as Attorney General.

Judge Elizabeth Hruby-Mills did not set a trial date. Shurtleff’s attorney, Richard Van Wagoner, says because the case is so complicated there is still information they are trying to get from the prosecution.

“We’ve gone through a massive amount of discovery and we’ve made additional requests for discovery," he says. " They’re in the process of trying to gather that information and get it to us.”

Davis County Attorney Troy Rawlings did not offer Shurtleff any plea deals. The next court date is set for August 10.
