Support YWCA Utah When You Donate To KUER

Your donation to KUER this December can help families recovering from domestic violence, thanks to our partnership with YWCA Utah. When you select YWCA Utah as your thank you gift, part of your donation will go towards providing household essentials for families in need. Household essentials can include pillows, blankets, shower curtains, soap, towels, laundry bags, garbage cans, mops, buckets, cleaning supplies, toasters, pots, pans, silverware and sheets.

Learn more about YWCA’s Supportive Housing Program:

The YWCA offers 2 and 3 bedroom fully furnished apartments for women and children, as well as single units for women without children, in a secure, supportive environment.  All of our housing is for those recovering from the trauma of domestic violence.  Our housing program has 36 units for families and 12 units for women living alone.

While living in the YWCA’s housing, women have access to all of the YWCA’s resources, including assistance finding a job or enrolling in school, child care and after school programs, as well as connections to a wide array of counseling and other community resources.  Supportive housing offers a vital bridge between the crisis shelter and living independently in the community.

When families move in to our housing from shelter, our goal is to provide them with the essential items needed to settle in and begin living independently. Items like garbage cans, dishes, shower curtains, towels, etc. can be cost prohibitive for low income mothers, and our goal is to provide them with all of the items they may need.

Domestic violence is a very real and serious issue in our community.  1 in 3 Utah women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime. Last year, we provided shelter to 657 women and children fleeing domestic violence; housed 156 women and children in our supportive housing; received 6,593 visits to the Salt Lake Area Family Justice Center; helped individuals receive 154 protective orders; and answered 2,248 crisis calls.
