Protect LDS Children

Sam Young, a former bishop in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, on Sunday told a crowd of supporters in downtown Salt Lake City that he has been excommunicated after his sustained campaign of protesting church policy on how Mormon leaders conduct private interviews with youth.

Sam Young, a former Mormon bishop from Houston, is currently on his fifth day of a hunger strike to provoke change in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Young believes that Mormon leaders shouldn’t be asking sexually explicit questions in interviews with children and youth.

In the latest move to address sexual misconduct within its ranks, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has issued updated guidelines on how church leaders conduct interviews with teens and children. The group Protect LDS Children in particular has called for an end to sexually explicit questions when a young person meets with a leader, most often a bishop.
