Chinese Officials Scale Back The Pomp

In China, the Politburo has decided it's time for some cutbacks and a reboot. According to Chinese state media, party leaders have decided to dispense with banners, red carpets and grandiose flower displays when they make an appearance. Long, boring speeches are also out, as are glowing reviews in the media.

Officials are responding to a growing disgust by the population of official arrogance and opulence. Said one commentator, quote, "The last generation lived in a small bubble and did not listen to public opinion.
