Barefoot to Avalon (Atlantic Monthly Press) is the latest work from novelist David Payne.  This time he’s written a memoir about coming to terms with the death of his bipolar brother.  In her review, Betsy Burton says Payne “has done something astonishing here—has written a memoir so willfully intent on drilling to the core of who he is and what has motivated his behavior, not to mention his family’s, that it is utterly devoid of the sentimental and is painfully revelatory.”

Then, Austen Diamond says Lake Street Dive has bridged the gap between Motown, 60s soul, and rock and folk music, creating a sound that’s fresh, playful, and engrossing.  They’re playing two nights at The State Room, Monday and Tuesday, August 10th and 11th.  Right now both shows are sold out.

Iron & Wine brings his growing canon of music—from soft folk to jazzy funk—to Park City Live on Wednesday, August 12th.

And Saharan blues band Tinariwen takes the Urban Lounge stage on Thursday, August13th.
