Sentencing for former Democratic state representative Justin Miller was delayed Friday.
Justin Miller entered a guilty plea in October to one count of second-degree felony communications fraud. He allegedly stole nearly $25,000 in campaign funds while working as campaign manager for Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams.
The sentencing was delayed when 3rd District Court Judge Katie Bernards-Goodman disclosed on Friday that her husband works for Mayor McAdams. Attorneys opted to have the case reassigned to a new judge.
Meanwhile, there is still some dispute over how much restitution Miller owes. McAdams reportedly sent a letter to the court asking for more than $25,000. That letter is sealed, but McAdams’ attorney confirmed they’re looking for additional restitution.
While he was campaign manager for McAdams, Miller wrote a check to himself to cover catering costs for an event but never reimbursed the campaign. McAdams fired Miller in October 2014, and he was elected to the legislature a month later, where he served as a representative for less than a year.
Miller’s sentencing is now expected to take place in 2016.
