Washington County Emergency Services officials are scaling back volunteer search operations for 6-year-old Tyson Black of Hildale, Utah. Hildale Mayor Philip Barlow says they’ve had up to 700 people in the current effort.
“They’re recommending we pull back on the volunteers and kind of give the area a rest,” explains Barlow, “let all of the human scent go out of it and just clear it and then that opens to way for the canines to go through.”
Barlow says 10 K-9 crews from various parts of the county have committed to continuing the search this weekend. He says at this point there’s no telling how long the search will go.
“You know when you lose your little boy in the back yard, when do you stop looking for him?” Barlow asks.
Twelve people lost their lives and three family members escaped. Barlow says area residents are still trying to adjust to life after the tragedy.
