Matheson Courthouse Evacuated After Suspicious Bag Found

Salt Lake City police evacuated the Matheson Courthouse in downtown Salt Lake City after courthouse security reported finding a suspicious package outside of the building.

Salt Lake City police received a call from courthouse security at 10:30 a.m. About an hour later courthouse security evacuated the building when police called in the bomb squad to investigate.

The suspicious package was located along 400 South and 50 East in a parking structure that belongs to the Ken Garff building.

Sgt. Robin Heiden of the Salt Lake City police department says there were no threats made to the courthouse.

After the bomb squad investigated the black duffle bag, Salt Lake City police eventually determined that it was not a threat and lifted the evacuation order. Traffic on 400 South is now flowing normally.
