Third District Congressional candidate John Curtis has solidified the Republican nomination in his bid to replace former Representative Jason Chaffetz.
Curtis’ main opponent, former state lawmaker Chris Herrod, called to concede the race after updated vote tallies were released Friday afternoon.
“I think John ran a great campaign, and I wish him the best,” said Herrod. “I think he’ll represent the Republican party well, and, most likely, as it is in this state, he’ll represent the state of Utah well.”
Curtis expanded his margin of victory to lead with 43 percent of the vote, while Herrod trailed with 32 percent. Tanner Ainge, who conceded Tuesday night, earned 24 percent.
Curtis will now face Democrat Kathie Allen in the general election this November to serve out the rest of Chaffetz’s term.
