There’s just over a week until election day, and the numbers are in. Numbers from Federal Election Commission financial disclosures, that is.
As of mid-October, two Republican congressional candidates are nearly neck-and-neck in spending numbers, approaching $5 million each.
Republican Senate candidate Mitt Romney is Utah’s top spender so far this cycle. The latest filings n show the former presidential nominee has spent just under $4.7 million in his race against Democrat Jenny Wilson.
Just behind Romney is GOP Congresswoman Mia Love, who has spent $4.67 million trying to defend her seat in a tight race against Democrat Ben McAdams. Love’s spending this cycle is on par with her last two campaigns in 2016 and 2014, where she shelled out more than $5 million each election.
McAdams is the state’s third-biggest spender in 2018, significantly outspending his fellow Democrats with more than $2.6 million in reported expenditures as of Oct. 17.
In the week before the Nov. 6 election, Love has $323,274 left in the bank while McAdams is sitting on $237,960.
In Utah’s three other congressional races this cycle, Republican incumbents lead their challengers in both fundraising and spending. Meanwhile, their Democratic opponents have spent just over $260,000 combined.
