4/27/06: Bela Bartok's "Bluebeard's Castle"
By Doug Fabrizio
Salt Lake City, UT – When you think of restoring a classic piece of art, an image of a fresco or maybe a dingy painting probably first leaps to mind. But Peter Bartok has newly restored Bela Bartok's Bluebeard's Castle - one of the 20th century's enduring operatic works. Peter, son of the famed composer, corrected what he sees as over 300 omissions and errors that have crept into the work since its 1918 premiere. Doug Fabrizio is joined by Peter Bartok, Peter Webster of the Utah Symphony and by Bartok scholar Carl Leafstedt for a look at the artist, his music and his retelling of the dark, 17th century Bluebeard tale.
- The Utah Symphony will perform the world premiere of Bela Bartok's newly restored Bluebeard's Castle along with Mozart's Overture to The Abduction from the Seraglio and Violin Concerto No. 5. The concerts are Friday, April 28th and Saturday, April 29th at 8:00 p.m. For tickets or for more information, visit The Utah Symphony or call 533-6683.
