Salt Lake City, UT – Though a proposed constitutional amendment to define marriage failed the Senate vote Wednesday, it is expected to be taken up by the House next month. Earlier this week, religious leaders - including Elder Russell M. Nelson, an apostle in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - stood with President Bush to show their support of the amendment. Elder Nelson's presence, along with a letter which urged church members to "express themselves" to their Senators, offered a rare opinion by the Church on a political issue. Thursday on RadioWest, we'll look at the Church's political activism, and at the attitudes of various members towards the questions surrounding same-sex unions.
