11/09/09: Crazy - America's Mental Health Madness

Salt Lake City, Utah – Pete Earley had been a journalist for 30 years when his work on crime and punishment became personal. His son Mike was declared mentally ill, and in one episode, he damaged a neighbor's house when he broke in to take a bubble bath. Mike was arrested and the ensuing journey led Pete into the maze of the mental health care system. Pete Earley is coming to Utah and Monday he joins us to explain how America's prisons have become the new mental asylums and what it means for those suffering from illness.

  • Pete Earley will be in Utah this Thursday, November 12 as part of the annual conference of Utah's National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). The conference will be held at Noah's Event Center in South Jordan. The public is welcomed to attend and can register for the conference at: www.namiut.org or by calling Spencer at 801-323-9900.
