Salt Lake City, Utah – Thursday, the Utah legislature passed a bill capping pain and suffering awards in medical malpractice lawsuits. Proponents of malpractice reform say that litigation and by extension defensive medicine are sources of waste in the system, and that fixing these problems would help contain the costs of health care. Opponents say that while there may be things to fix, the savings would be a mere drop in the bucket. Monday, we're taking a look at the arguments and at what the numbers really tell us.
