2/10/11: The Music of Hal Cannon

By Doug Fabrizio

Salt Lake City, Utah – Folklorist and musician Hal Cannon has spent much of his career telling other people's stories. He creates documentaries and features for NPR, he's the founding director of the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, and he's played with a variety of bands in the region. But all along, he says, he was in the closet writing his own tunes. Now, Cannon's produced his first album of all original work, and Thursday he joins us in studio to talk about and to play his music.

  • The CD release party for Hal Cannon's eponymous album is this Saturday, February 12 at The State Room in downtown Salt Lake City. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the show starts at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are available at www.thestateroomslc.com or at Slow Train Records, 221 E Broadway, SLC
  • Hal Cannon's album is available on his website
