Twilight Concert Series Lineup Announced
Lauryn Hill, Beck, De La Soul, TV On The Radio and Wu Tang Clan are just a few of the bands that will take the stage at Pioneer Park this summer for the annual Twilight Concert Series July 10th-August 28th.
Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker says the Twilight Concert Series is the largest summer arts event in the city, bringing tens of thousands of people downtown for nearly two months, who eat at local restaurants, shop at local stores and create a an overall buzz throughout the city.
“I’ve got to say, I’m from another generation,” Becker says. “I’m frequently reminded of that when I look at the lineup and some of the folks I’ll know a little bit and a lot of them I won’t. But I do know for the audience that we’re attracting, we’ve got the biggest stars coming in the music business.”
One change to the series is that former Salt Lake Arts Council Program Director Casey Jarman is no longer involved with Art’s Council or the Twilight Concerts. He’s been replace by Jesse Schaefer, who’s been with the series for seven years. Schaefer says moving forward, the series might be carving out more space for local musicians. This year, the series will feature performances by three winners of the Salt Lake City Weekly Music awards.
“We realize that we have a great thing, a large platform, good crowds that people attend no matter what,”Jarman says. “Having the chance to bring some local artists in is really exciting. I think we need to make sure that we’re supportive of them for many reasons. The local arts scene, everything starts with that, from a national level, it all has to come from somewhere and we have a really vibrant scene here.”
Prices for the series are the same as last year. Tickets for individual shows are $5 and a season pass is $35.
Event officials stressed no backpacks or large purses will be permitted at the shows.
