The Head and the Heart plays at the Eccles Theater on Wednesday, November 2.

News of the World (Morrow) is Paulette Jiles’s new novel.  It’s about a Civil War vet and the young girl he’s been hired to take back to her own people after four years in captivity.  Betsy Burton says “this is a rip-snorting Western novel, full of action, while at the same time a touching tale of two people, one 70, one 10, learning to care.

Then, Austen Diamond previews a few of the shows at the new Eccles Theater.  First up is the folk outfit The Head and the Heart.  They’ll play on Wednesday, November 2nd.

Then, The Goo Goo Dolls take the stage on Friday, November 4th.

And soul-singer Amos Lee’s show is on Monday, November 7th.

Music heard on this Books & Beats:

Intro: “The Wicked Flee” by Carter Burwell

1: “All We Ever Knew” by The Head and the Heart

2: “Iris” by The Goo Goo Dolls
