Utah's Consumer Attitude Index Hits High

Bob Nelson

Utah’s Consumer Attitude Index hit an all-time high from June to July in a survey done for Zions Bank by The Cicero Group. The CAI increased 6.6 points to 104.9 during the period and has improved 19.4 points over the past four months. Randy Shumway is the Chief Executive Officer for Cicero.  He says 34 percent of Utahns surveyed believe their income is going to rise over the next twelve months.

“That 34 percent is full 9 points higher than it was at this time last year. So people are increasingly optimistic about their economic circumstances,” says Shumway.

At the same Zions Bank press conference Tuesday at the Gateway in Salt Lake City, Megaplex TheatersPresident Blake Anderson announced the company’s plan to invest one million dollars in updates at the movie complex. He says the Miller family feels the Gateway is still a premium place to be.

“And for us the decision wasn’t that difficult. We just…we’ve done very well at this location and felt like, you know, we’re here to stay. We believe in the mall, we believe in the downtown area and it was worth it to reinvest here,” says Anderson.

Anderson also announced the start of $5 Tuesdays beginning next week at all Megaplex Theaters with all movies including IMAX for five dollars. He says it’s a way for families and larger groups to see more movies.
