Medicaid Initiative Is One Step Close To The Ballot
Organizers behind an initiative to fully expand Medicaid in the state say they have enough signatures to get it on the ballot in November.
The group, Utah Decides Healthcare, made the announcement earlier today. According to the Lieutenant Governor’s Office they have enough valid signatures from around the state to qualify for the ballot this fall. Those numbers could still change however, and the Lt. Governor still has until June to certify the initiative.
Utah Decides Healthcare estimates their proposal would expand low-cost health insurance to 150,000 Utahns.
This year the legislature voted to expand Medicaid up to the federal poverty level. But the Affordable Care Act allows states to expand it to even more people.
