After years of saving and searching, one Utah family finally bought their first home by making peace with the daily commute and expanding their search beyond Salt Lake County.

How they got the house: Buying a 125-year-old project house is “a great idea if you like working with your hands,” said homeowner Belle Barnes. “If you don't, you're going to be miserable the whole time.”
