Mike Brown was officially sworn in as Salt Lake City’s Chief of Police Thursday.

Mike Brown is Salt Lake City’s 46th Chief of Police. He has served as interim chief for the past year, since former Mayor Ralph Becker asked the previous Chief of Police Chris Burbank to resign.

Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski says she picked Brown as the new chief for his ability to listen, his patience, and his humility.

“Already under Chief Brown’s command it has become a department more responsive to the needs of the public and more adaptable to the changing landscape of this city,” she says.

Brown says he wants to continue the work he started as interim chief.

“You know I’ve often been asked ‘Chief what are you going to do in your first 100 days?’ And my reply to that is – you know this is day 359," he says. "So I never saw myself as a placeholder, I wanted to make a meaningful change.”

Brown says he plans to get more cops into the community and asks for the public’s support, trust, and feedback.
