Governor Herbert Inaugurated to First Full Term

A performance by the One Voice Children’s Choir helped mark the inauguration of Gary Herbert to his first full term as Governor. The ceremony also included performances from the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and a 19 gun salute by the Utah National Guard. In his inaugural address Herbert refrained from making any strong political statements. Instead he urged everyone to keep pressing forward while praising the “can-do” attitude of state residents both past and present.

“For many Utahns today, the path ahead remains difficult and challenging. Like the pioneers, I recognize that we still have a ways to go. To each of you I say – have courage! Have Faith! There is reason to be optimistic.”

Herbert first became governor in 2009 when Jon Huntsman left the position to become Ambassador to China. He won a special election to keep the seat in 2010 and will now begin his first full term after beating Democratic opponent Peter Cooke in the most recent election. Lt. Governor Greg Bell, Attorney General John Swallow, and State Treasurer Richard Ellis were also sworn in during the ceremonies.
