A poll released by the BYU Center for the Study of Elections and Democracy gives new insight into how Utah voters feel about the alleged scandal involving Utah Attorney General John Swallow.
Of those voters polled who knew about the alleged scandal nearly 60 percent of them believe that Utah Attorney General John Swallow either acted illegally or at least unethically. The results don’t change much based on party either, although, Republicans are much more likely to have not formed an opinion yet. Kelly Patterson is a senior research fellow at the Center for the Study of Elections and Democracy. He says the findings don’t bode well for Swallow but that the final outcome is largely dependent on the results of a federal investigation and how much the media continues to cover it.
“Public opinion will react to that. And at that point the Attorney General will need to make some sort of decision about whether to stay in office and fight it or leave office," he says. "All of that, though, depends on the actors in the process that have not yet weighed in.”
Key Research conducted the survey. 500 registered voters participated.
