Governor Gary Herbert’s Senior Environmental Advisor, Alan Matheson, is adding the duties of the State Planning Coordinator to his job in the governor’s office. The governor’s communications deputy Ally Isom says demand for Matheson’s experience in balanced resource management will be important in his added role.
“As we look to energy development as increasingly important to our local economy and as we see it as one of the governor’s priorities as well as the need to determine what happens to Utah’s water future," says Isom. "Alan is a natural fit to help us facilitate and coordinate all of these policy decisions as we move forward.”
Isom says Governor Herbert is rebalancing some of the state's priorities toward local needs while the nation’s first state director outdoor recreation, Brad Peterson, was announced last month.
“Alan is actually the one who spearheaded development of our outdoor recreation vision to begin with. He was the primary author of the outdoor recreation plan and so that will not less in any importance,” says Isom.
Isom says Mike Mower, the Deputy Chief of Staff, had previously held the position but will now focus on local city and county outreach for the governor’s office.
