Doug Fabrizio and his team spent the summer retooling and rethinking RadioWest. Starting Sept. 13, the show will return as a weekly program. Plus, view KUER's new fall program schedule.

To learn more about the return of RadioWest, read Doug Fabrizio’s letter to listeners. Then, catch the show at the following times:

  • Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: This two-hour broadcast is the first airing of the show. Hour One is "live and local," with topics rooted in Utah and life in the West. Hour Two will feature an in-depth conversation about ideas, culture, art and more.
  • Fridays at 7 p.m.: An encore broadcast of Hour Two.
  • Saturdays at 11 a.m.: Hour Two airs following Wait Wait ... Don’t Tell Me!
  • On-demand: anytime at RadioWest.orgor wherever your get your podcasts.

On Sept. 13, several other changes will go into effect.  View or print a PDF version of the schedule here

  • Weekdays, 9-10 a.m.: After Morning Edition, stay tuned for an hour of global news and analysis from BBC OS (Monday through Thursday) and 1A’s international news roundup (Friday).
  • 1A on Fridays. 1A's daily two-hour broadcast will start one hour earlier on Friday, from 9-11 a.m. Hour One (9 a.m.) will feature the international news roundup. Hour Two (10 a.m.) will feature the national news roundup. (Elsewhere, 1A remains unchanged, airing Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon and with a one-hour version airing weeknights at 7.)
  • Science Friday will move to 1-3 p.m. on Fridays. (The World will not be heard on Fridays.)
  • It’s Been a Minute With Sam Sanders moves to Fridays at 3 p.m.
  • New Yorker Radio Hour joins our weekend schedule, Sundays at noon, following Wait Wait … Don’t Tell Me
  • Sunday’s broadcast of Studio 360 moves to 2 p.m., followed by TED Radio Hour at 3 p.m., which replaces our encore broadcast of Live From Here (now airing exclusively on Saturdays at 6 p.m.)

Our goal with any program schedule change is to serve our audience with the best and most meaningful programs possible. Like Doug, I think that this new chapter of RadioWest is going to be truly special. Everyone here at KUER hopes the show becomes a regular part of your Friday and Saturday routine. Also, we’re excited to make two shows that we auditioned this summer, BBC OS and New Yorker Radio Hour, a regular part of your week.

That said, we know that any change disrupts the habitual listening that makes the KUER audience so special. Please contact me with your thoughts on our new schedule. I take your opinions very seriously, and your high standards are part of what makes this station truly great.

As always, thank you for being a listener. -- Joel Meyer, Director of Programming and Promotion, KUER

Frequently Asked Questions

RadioWest is two hours on Friday mornings, but only one hour on Friday evening and Saturday morning. How do those broadcasts differ?
During the 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. broadcast on Fridays, Hour One, which we’re calling RadioWest Friday, will regularly be “live and local,” focused on news, culture and people along the Wasatch Front and across Utah. Hour Two will be a richly produced conversation focus on fascinating ideas, investigations into how the world works, and other “wildly curious” things you’ve come to expect from RadioWest. Encores of Friday’s Hour Two will be heard during the Friday 7-8 p.m. and Saturday 11-noon broadcasts.

Can I listen to podcasts of both hours?
Yes. Both hours will be available as podcasts and for on-demand listening on RadioWest.org.

Why change RadioWest?
As Doug wrote in his letter to listeners, RadioWest has changed a lot over the past 18 years. This latest chapter of the show will keep it rooted in the things you’ve come to expect over the years: in-depth conversations about the world and human experiences that spark your curiosity. The weekly format will enable Doug and his team to tell stories in new ways inside the program — and in new projects on the horizon.

Is 1A still on Fridays?
Yes, our two-hour broadcast of 1A will air one hour earlier on Fridays, from 9-11 a.m. We’re proud to continue the weekly tradition of news roundups (which dates back to 1A’s predecessor, The Diane Rehm Show.)

What happened to BBC OS on Fridays?
BBC OS will not air on KUER on Fridays, but the 9 o’clock hour will still have an international flair, with Joshua Johnson leading 1A’s international news roundup. However, you can catch OS from 9-11 a.m. on our 24/7 BBC World Service heard on KUER-2 on HD radios, the KUER app, and KUER.org.

What’s happening to Science Friday?
Our popular, two-hour deep dive into the scientific world will start one hour later at 1 p.m.

Joel joined KUER in 2018, following a westward journey from Chicago that involved a 14-year-old Chevy and a 17-year-old cat. (The car broke down. The cat survived.) As the station’s program director, he focused on KUER’s program schedule, promotional strategy and content development, including the recent reboot of the marquee program RadioWest and the launch of Preach, a joint podcast venture with PRX and CPB.
