Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., an early supporter of the Tea Party movement who helped foster its growth in Congress and worked for the election of like-minded lawmakers, is leaving to run the conservative Heritage Foundation. His exit set in motion political maneuvers from Columbia, S.C., to Washington, D.C.
Michigan Lawmakers Pass Right-To-Work Bills Amid Protests
Demonstrators filled the Michigan capitol's rotunda and at one point attempted to rush the Senate floor. The images were reminiscent of the protracted stand-off between union workers and the legislature in Wisconsin.
Sen. Jim DeMint Leaving Congress To Run Heritage Foundation
He's one of the most consistently conservative voices in Congress and a favorite of Tea Party activists across the nation. DeMint says he's "not leaving the fight." No organization, he says, is better equipped to push conservative principles than Heritage, a Washington-based think tank.
