Laura McCallum of Minnesota Public Radio reports on flack Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura is getting over his latest part-time job. Ventura will be a commentator on the new XFL football league, which will take him out of the state for 10 weekends during the up-coming legislative session. Some lawmakers say Ventura's moonlighting is taking time away from his elected duties. But Ventura says it's his business, and many Minnesotans agree. (

NPR's Claudio Sanchez reports that Former Colorado Governor Roy Romer is facing a big challenge in trying to turn around the massive, and troubled, Los Angeles school district. Romer has been working in LA as the School superintendent for half a year.

The Supreme Court of Florida met today to hear arguments about the hand-recount of votes taking place in several counties. The justices quizzed attorneys for Vice President Gore, Texas Governor Bush and others about their positions on whether hand recounts of the ballots should count.

John Burnett reports that while George W. Bush adviser James Baker says counting ballots by hand is inherently subjective, Texas has had several state races recounted by hand under a law signed in 1997 by Governor Bush.

NPR's Tom Gjelten reports on the latest in the presidential election. Vice president Gore wants a manual, statewide recount in Florida and promises to accept those results. Republicans declined that offer...they feel Governor Bush can take the state and the presidency one the absentee ballots are counted.

Vice President Al Gore has made two proposals towards resolving last week's presidential election. And Gore offered to meet with Texas Governor George W. Bush to -- quote -- "improve the tone of our dialogue in America." Robert talks to NPR's Nina Totenberg about the Gore proposals.

Florida's state courts took center stage today in the continuing tally of the presidential vote. A judge in Tallahassee said the state could cut off its tallying of votes at 5 p.m. Tuesday, but he also said amended returns filed later should be considered at the discretion of Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris. The campaign of Texas Governor George W. Bush applauded the upholding of the deadline, while the campaign of Vice President Al Gore said the judge was really telling Harris to respect amended returns that may be filed later.
