Noah Adams talks live to Massachutses Governor William Weld, a pro-choice Republican, about his attempt to ensure that his state's delegation to the Republican convention supports abortion rights. Weld was meeting today with state GOP leaders in hopes of disqualiyfing at least four of the state's 30 delegates. Sixteen of the 30 are abortion foes who would fight the attempts of Weld and other governors to delete anti-abortion language from the Republican party platform.

Wright, who was President Clinton's chief of staff when he was governor of Arkansas... During her testimony on Thursday, Wright disputed the Committee's claims that Governor Clinton arranged favors for campaign contributors. She also pointed out that both Senators Bob Dole and Alfonse D'Amato have accepted campaign contributions similar to those received by Mr. Clinton.

Illinois is trying to solve the problem of how to provide equitable levels of funding for school systems throughout the state. Governor Edgar has proposed that income taxes be increased, while a Republican lawmaker suggested existing funds be shifted to fund schools. NPR's Cheryl Corley reports that some educators say Illinois should look to Michigan for advice, where a state-wide property tax helps raise funds for all communities that have a wide variety of income levels.

Daniel talks with Colin Spencer, author of "The Heretic's Feast, a History of Vegetarianism". Spencer says one of the first great vegetarians on record was Pythagoras, who about 25 hundred years ago, headed a sect which believed in part that human souls can reincarnate into animal forms and therefore animals shouldn't be eaten. Pythagoras was considered to be a very holy man at the time, but in later years European Christians viewed vegetarians as heretics and poked fun at them - a habit which Spencer says persists today.

In the fraud and conspiracy case against Jim and Susan McDougal and Gov. Jim Guy Tucker, businessman David Hale testified today that he met with then governor Bill Clinton and James McDougal to discuss making a covet loan to Clinton. Mr. Hale is the government's star witness and his testimony has been long-awaited. He was sentenced last week to more than 2 years in prison and more than a million dollars in fines for defrauding the Small Business Administration.
