The Utah Direct program will guarantee students from the Canyons, Granite, Davis and Provo school districts a spot at the state’s flagship school as long as they have a 3.5 or higher GPA and finish certain classes.

“I know if our teachers have the help and support that they need, that our kids will have the best chance at quality instruction and good outcomes,” Horsley told KUER.

Horsley, a longtime Granite School District staffer, starts later in July. Current Superintendent Rich Nye is joining the governor’s administration.
